________________, 2010 MNR Guelph District Office St Marys Cement Inc. (Canada) 1 Stone Road West 55 Industrial Street, 4th Floor Guelph, ON N1G 4Y2 Toronto, ON M4G 3W9 Attn: Diane Schwier Attn: Melanie Horton Dear Mesdames, I am writing this letter so that I am on the record expressing my concerns and objections to the application for a Category 2, Class A License under the Aggregate Resources Act (ARA), by St Marys Cement and to the land use planning applications that have been submitted to the City of Hamilton. This proposed open pit mine development is not appropriate for our community for many reasons. These reasons include issues such as, but not limited to, unacceptable impacts on water quantity and quality, no acceptable haul routes and risk to public safety, destruction of the natural environment in our Greenbelt, permanent loss of farmland and negative impacts on the remaining farm operations, potential air quality and health impacts, and incompatible zoning and Official Plan status. This development would be too close to our homes, schools, farms, and small businesses. It would change our community forever. I have been informed and understand that there is a particular process under the ARA for the filing of official objections and the reconfirming of them and I understand that I am not eligible to become part of that process. I still, however, want my views known to the parties involved and I believe the company should be informing all of the community about its proposed plans and its efforts to resolve objections, not just people who objected during the 45 day objection period. I also support the work of FORCE and their retained technical experts, on behalf of our community, to champion our interests through the ARA and land use planning application processes and potential hearings. I ask the government agencies who are involved in these decisions to consider the community’s objections and to refuse the quarry license. Yours sincerely, (Name) (Street Address) (Town, Province) (Postal Code) o I am a new resident who moved into the community after May 21, 2009
